The Lucifer cannon, known affectionately as the Luci, is the most powerful weapon in the human arsenal. It is capable of killing any alien or alien structure in a single shot, except for the [[Tyrant]] and the [[Overmind]]. Be aware that if charged for too long, the plasma blast will leave the barrel spontaneously and explode right in front of it, damaging the user. Fortunately, the weapon gives off a loud warning signal just before that's about to happen.&lt;br /&gt;

* Lead your shots, as the plasma blasts travel quite slowly. Unless they are walking straight towards you, shoot where you think they will be next.&lt;br /&gt;

Developed by satanic scientists, the Lucifer Cannon was once known as Lucifer's hand. Nobody could resist her power, thus causing a quarrel among the scientists. As soon as they vanished and nobody could perfect her, an arms dealer laid their hands on her blueprint. Step by step they tried to recreate the power of hers, in order to dominate the world. Nobody was able to manufacture a weapon as beautiful and deadly, so they began selling her to the military. Now being issued to the soldiers that have earned her power, she is capable of destroying bases within a matter of seconds. Nobody dares to stand in her path, but many choose to abuse her power and either overcharge or use her abilities too often, usually causing death of enemy and friend alike.&lt;br /&gt;

= Overview =&lt;br /&gt;
A package is simply a zip-file or a folder containing resources.  When a package is loaded its contents are extracted into a virtual filesystem (analogous to a hidden folder).  If two packages have the same file, the file that was first extracted always wins out -- files cannot be overwritten once they are in the filesystem (this differs greatly to the traditional quake behavior).&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The game only loads packages as it needs them:&lt;br /&gt;
* Main ''unvanquished'' package (containing base game resources) is always loaded first.&lt;br /&gt;
* Map packages as they are necessary&lt;br /&gt;
* Any packages that the above say they depend on (eg texture-packs)&lt;br /&gt;
Other packages can be forced to load using fs_extrapaks (detailed below).&lt;br /&gt;

Every package has a version number.  When a package is loaded the latest version is used. For example:&lt;br /&gt;

In this case an enterprising author made their package version an ISO date (YYYY-MM-DD) to ensure that the latest version always has the 'largest' version number.  There are [[Packaging Version Guidelines|recommended versioning guidelines]] that go into more detail. To load multiple version of the same package, the one with the 'largest' version number must list the ones with 'smaller' version number as dependencies in DEPS file.&lt;br /&gt;

There are two ways packages can be stored: as dpks or dpkdirs.  Packages ending in .dpkdir are plain folders whilst .dpk's are zip-compressed files.  Generally it's easier to work with a dpkdir folder and then make a compressed copy only when needed to send over the web.&lt;br /&gt;

Despite this link being on official's Unvanquished's server, those are *not* officially supported and require modifications to be played. If you are lucky, you can get them working (locally) by simply renaming them in your own unvanquished/pkg folder like this: `map-${name}_${version}.dpk`. Further improvement, needed to get bots working, is to repack them after having run daemonmap on the included .bsp.&lt;br /&gt;

Despite this link being on official's Unvanquished's server, those are *not* officially supported and require modifications to be played. If you are lucky, you can get them working (locally) by simply renaming them in your own unvanquished/pkg folder like this: `map-${name}_${version}.dpk`. Further improvement, needed to get bots working, is to repack them after having run daemonmap on the included .bsp.&lt;br /&gt;

There is an unofficial (but still led by one of unvanquished's fellow and main developpers) effort to port a number of tremulous maps [https://github.com/InterstellarOasis/InterstellarOasis/tree/master/src].&lt;br /&gt;

You can also find a bunch of maps from tremulous [https://dl.unvanquished.net/mercenaries-guild/public_html/maps/].&lt;br /&gt;
Despite this link being on official's Unvanquished's server, those are *not* officially supported and require modifications to be played. If you are lucky, you can get them working (locally) by simply renaming them in your own unvanquished/pkg folder like this: `map-${name}_${version}.dpk`. Further improvement, needed to get bots working, is to repack them after having run daemonmap on the included .bsp.&lt;br /&gt;

Despite this link being on official's Unvanquished's server, those are *not* officially supported and require modifications to be played. If you are lucky, you can get them working (locally) by simply renaming them in your own unvanquished/pkg folder like this: `map-${name}_${version}.dpk`. Further improvement, needed to get bots working, is to repack them after having run daemonmap on the included .bsp.&lt;br /&gt;
